Childish Gambino’s new song “This Is America” has debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, Billboard reports. It has unseated Drake’s “Nice for What,” which spent its first four weeks on the on the Hot 100 at No. 1. “This Is America” marks Donald Glover’s first track to reach the top spot and even the top 10. His previous highest charting song was “Redbone,” which peaked at No. 12 last August, according to Billboard.
“This Is America” follows Childish Gambino’s latest album “Awaken, My Love!” The track debuted with a political, violent Hiro Murai-directed visual and features background vocals from Young Thug, 21 Savage, Quavo, Rae Sremmurd’s Slim Jxmmi, and BlocBoy JB. Glover performed the song when he was the musical guest on the May 5 episode of “Saturday Night Live” (which he also hosted). He debuted another new song called “Saturday” during the show, and left a sweet thank-you note afterwards—check it out below.
